Yom Sport

Yom Sport is more than just a day of sports. It's a day of teamwork, of ruach, of fun, a day for the whole camp to come together in the spirit of healthy competition. This year Yom Sport began on Saturday night with a campwide Havdalah program. We all gathered at the lake as three stars appeared in the sky and joined our voices in the beautiful melody of Havdalah. We then lit a torch, which spelled out the word Ramah in Hebrew, and watched proudly as the name of our camp burned over the lake. For the rest of the evening, the four colored teams participated in events under the new lights on the sports fields.

The next morning, the teams participated in a wide range of sports, both traditional and creative. There was everything from floor hockey and football, to greased watermelon and kayaking in the lake, to drama games, to Hebrew games-something for everyone. After lunch, everyone gathered on the kikar for some short games like tug-of-war and musical chairs. Then, in the afternoon, the teams participated in the Apache, a huge relay race that takes the teams all around camp and even out of camp. The Apache culminates with four campers kayaking to the island, four campers swimming back, and then representatives from Nivonim building bonfires on the beach. It's such an exciting time as the four teams gather at the lakefront and cheer on their representatives.

The day ends with the campwide talent show, as campers from each aidah get the chance to showcase their talents, including singing, dancing, playing instruments, and juggling. It's a long and busy day, but it ends with a great sense of accomplishment.

Rebecca S. (Garinim): Yom Sport was really fun. There were lots of different activities and then at the end each color got into its own line while the older campers were finishing the Apache. We all cheered and it was a lot of fun.

Lauren S. (Garinim): I really really liked the Apache. I thought the bonfire at the end was really cool. I really liked Yom Sport. It was just a lot of fun.

Mia D. (Garinim): Yom Sport was awesome. There were lots of different sports and activities that you could participate in. The Apache was really cool because there were lots of different activities. I was on the Yellow Team and I was really happy about how our team did. Yom Sport is just really awesome. It's a great time for the whole camp to come together.

Abby B. (Garinim): Yom Sport was really fun.

Lena R. (Solelim): I thought Yom Sport was a lot of fun. It helped us to learn about teamwork and help each other out and learn from each other.

Shoshi F. (Solelim): I thought Yom Sport was so much fun because we come together as a camp.

Benjy Reiff (Sports Staff, living with Shoafim): Something I really like about Yom Sport is that there are a lot of different types of games in which campers can learn how to work as a team and learn how to work together. My favorite part of Yom Sport is definitely the Apache. The most exciting part is when the swimmers are swimming back to camp and the bonfires are being lit.

Elliot S. (Shoafim): Yom Sport was really fun. I was on the Blue Team. All the sports are nice.

Ari W. (Shoafim): I had a lot of fun on Yom Sport. I was on the Green Team and we all had a really fun time.

Tyler G. (Shoafim): I had a lot of fun on Yom Sport. I loved all the sports and the big race at the end was really fun.

Rachel O. (Bogrim): Yom Sport was a lot of fun. I was on the Blue Team. In the morning there are all these different relays and events. In the afternoon there is a whole campwide relay and every camper participates. I did a blind maze during it. The whole day was really fun.

Tova P. (Bogrim): Yom Sport was really fun. I was on the Green Team and it was so much fun because you compete in all these different things and you feel so connected to the whole camp. I did water sports and played Greased Watermelon, which was really fun. I also did the performing arts part where we had to make up cheers and dances for our team. It was so much fun.

Tyler W. (Machon): This year's Yom Sport was really fun. The sports are great. I love playing soccer and floor hockey-those are my favorite.

Avi S. (Machon): I really enjoyed Yom Sport this year, especially playing campwide Capture the Flag and softball at night. I also liked football and floor hockey, and I got to kayak in the Apache.

Ari F. (Machon): My favorite thing about Yom Sport is Capture the Flag. It's really fun because you get to just run around camp at night with people from other aidot. It's fun to play with people from the whole camp.

Sam B. (Machon): I liked the Saturday night part of Yom Sport. It's fun because we don't usually get to play sports at night and it's a nice change from the regular daily schedule.

Rebecca C. (Tikvah): I thought Yom Sport was really fun. You got to do a lot of sports.
