Chadar Ochel - The Walls Have Arrived

Posted: 10/8/2008

The past two weeks have seen exciting progress on the Chadar Ochel. Late last week, the exterior walls of the building began going up, and work is now continuing on the interior walls. We are using a prefabricated building process through a company called Fulllerton Building Systems. This company, based in Minnesota, builds panels which are then shipped to the construction site and assembled. It's kind of like a large jigsaw puzzle; each panel is labeled and has its particular place. The panels already have some of the siding on and the windows in them. Once the walls are assembled (both the exterior and interior), they place the roof trusses (or what most of us would call "rafters") and plywood sheeting on the roof. From start to finish, it will take Fullerton Building 21 days to put the building up! The roofers will follow behind to put on the shingles, and the entire building will be enclosed - hopefully before it snows!

At the same time that the Chadar Ochel is being built, we are building a lounge onto "SSR", the staff residence that will house our commissary staff. You can see the concrete being poured for this addition in today's photos.
