Machon and Tikvah Play - The Wiz
Through the Tikvah Chaverim Program, Life Guard Training and a five day long trip to Iowa, Machon and Tikvah united as an eidah to perform "The Wiz" during the final Tuesday night of camp. With scenes set around the stage introducing Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion and the Wiz himself, Machon and Tikvah campers kept audience members entertained, especially through the repeating chorus song of "Lech B'Rechov" ("Ease on Down the Road.") Rehearsing countless hours for "The Wiz" since the first week of camp, Machon and Tikvah were the last eidot to present a musical for the 2008 summer.
Ben Hofkin (Rosh Machon): The Machon play exhibited the energy, passion and enthusiasm that Machon 2008 was all about. I was not surprised at all by the enthusiasm because I expected nothing less.
Emilie Botbol (Rosh Tikvah): The energy and enthusiasm they brought to the show blew us away. All the work they put into it, all the practice totally paid off. It was an incredible, incredible time.
Daniel R. (Machon): The play was amazing and the chorus people were amazing. It was so loud and so great. I loved it so much!
Sophie F. (Tikvah): I was extremely nervous for my big solo. I actually prepared by practicing a lot. Basically, it was not that easy but it was really fun. I had a lot of fun during the play.
Carl S. (Machon) I had never had a big part before, so it was a very big responsibility to learn my lines as the Wiz. It was a lot of fun when I finally learned all of them and could just go crazy up there. I'm glad that I got the part.
Rachel S. (Tikvah): The play went really well. My favorite part of the play was when I started the line and Noa E. came out as Dorothy. It was really exciting and I had fun doing the rehearsals.
Gabriella M. (Machon): The play was unbelievable. In past years our eidah was not always so enthusiastic, some people would rather play sports or do other things. But this year there was this sudden burst of energy and this spark and we were all thinking, "we can do this, we can be an amazing eidah." During the all day rehearsal, something just came and everybody got into it and it was so great. The people who were out there the whole time, the people who were in the chorus and the people who were dancers were all just so into it. It was such a fun experience.
Aliza S. (Machon): I didn't think of my character, the Wicked Witch, as the one who was evil so much as the one who had to be ridiculous and it was so fun just completely going crazy and having fun with my eidah like that. It was really amazing.
