Boating at the Waterfront

There are always lots of exciting activities going on at the waterfront at Camp Ramah.  From sailing and kayaking to "Blobbing" and water basketball, campers are sure to find an activity they enjoy.  Aside from the usual classes the waterfront st aff teach during the day, there are also special events at the waterfront, such as open swim on Shabbat, the weekly swims to the island, and the Polar Bear swim (which happens at 4:30 in the morning!).

Mike K. (Rosh Waterfront): In sailing this year, we have two new boats, the Hobie Catamarans. They go very fast and don't really tip over. You can put four people on one of these boats, so we can fit teachers on there. These sailboats are more advanced than the ones we had before and they have been a wonderful addition to the waterfront.

I enjoy getting to work with all the kids in camp. You really get to see them flourish; as they become better swimmers and boaters, I can see the joy it brings to them. It's also nice to see how kids have begun to make the waterfront a part of their day. The numbers for the island swim and the Polar Bear swim are continually increasing.

Tracey R. (Waterfront Staff): I like seeing kids' smiling faces when they go on the Blob. It's a lot working every perek during the day, but it's really fun and I am making good friends on waterfront staff so it's all worth it.

Ben H. (Waterfront Staff): Boating is very exciting this year. We got brand new sails for the sailboats. The Solelim campers are learning how to sail, while the Shoafim campers are building upon their sailing skills. Bogrim and Machon have the opportunity to sail on the new Hobie Catamarans. We got brand new canoes and double kayaks, which is also really exciting.

Katharine S. (Waterfront Staff): Sometimes it's tough to get kids in the water when it's cold, but they have fun once they get in. I really like working with the kids; it's my favorite part of being on waterfront staff.
