New Sports Additions This Summer

Camp has a wide variety of sports from which campers can choose, including softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, floor hockey, wrestling, and krav maga.  Campers participate in sport activities almost every day, and they have the opportunity to try several different sports.  Thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Jewish Camp as part of its Camper-Centric Initative, the sports program was expanded this year with a new floor in the Bet Am and new lights on all the outdoor sports fields (before, only the basketball courts had lights).  Now eidot can play sports at night and take advantage of the new lights, and having the new floor in the Bet Am opens up a fourth full basketball court.

Daniel Robinson (Sports Staff):  I'm teaching wrestling this summer at camp, which is new this year.  I wrestled for four years in high school and it's a sport that's not as popular as it should be so I'm trying to bring it to Ramah and introduce a new wrestling program.  We have a wide variety of sports here and wrestling is one of the oldest sports, so I think it's important to try to introduce it as a sport at camp.  The campers seem to love it so far.  They really enjoy the class.

Avia Zohar (Sports Staff):  I teach a combination of karate and krav maga.  I started practicing karate when I was eight years old and I am from Israel so I did a lot of krav maga in the army.  Krav Maga is a form of self-defense from Israel.  It teaches you how to have more control of your body.  I actually prefer karate though, so I teach more karate than krav maga.  It's good for your balance and for your brain.  The campers really enjoy learning both krav maga and karate.  It's a lot of fun for them.  These sports are important because it's good for both your body and your mind.  It helps improve your thoughts and awareness.
