Tikvah Lunch Theater

Traditionally, the campers in Tikvah have participated in the Machon musical because Machon is the eidah that they do many of their activities with.  Starting in 2001, Rosh Performing Arts Jonathan Ross decided that Tikvah should try doing a play of their own and Tikvah Lunch Theatre was born.  Together with their Machon chaverim, the Tikvah campers spent several weeks learning about a subject and developing and writing short skits based around a central theme.  The first summer's theme was Creation, and since then Tikvah has explored many different themes including Biblical sidekicks, siblings, and love.  This year's theme was "Lost: Jews Throughout History" and the campers outdid themselves.  It was plain to see that they were having a great time on stage and everyone in the audience enjoyed themselves as well.

Matt Tepperman (Drama Staff):  Today's play was "Lost: Jews Throughout History."  Before camp, I had surgery, so I was sitting around a lot and watching a lot of TV.  I decided to check out the show "Lost" which I had never seen before.  It stayed with me and I kept thinking about it that night and decided that I could tie it into Judaism pretty well.  Jews have been lost for two thousand years.  Then it hit me-Eureka!-the theme for Tikvah Lunch Theatre!  I was really excited for the show, but I had been nervous about coming up with a theme for it, so as soon as I had that idea I took it and ran with it.  It was a lot of fun.

Up until last year the themes for the Tikvah Lunch Theatre have been pretty generic, like love and friendship.  Last year was my first year directing the show and we put more stuff into it and this year we put more mystery into it.  My goal for this is to make it different every year, to make it more difficult and more interesting.  I think I definitely achieved that goal this year.

It's always a blast doing the Tikvah Lunch Theatre and I think this year's was the best ever.  It just keeps getting better every year.  The campers did an amazing job and I'm so proud of them.  They worked so hard and have come so far.  It was amazing.

Emilie Botbol (Rosh Tikvah):  The campers were fantastic.  They worked really hard on writing their own scripts and really pulled off an excellent show.  I'm so proud of them.

Jillian B. (Tikvah):  The play went very well today.  I played the grandma in the grandma story.  To write the play we all got into groups with our counselors, Machon chaverim and Nivonim interns and they helped us write it.

Kenny K. (Tikvah):  I think I did very well in the play today.  Everyone was congratulating us.

Aryeh Z. (Tikvah):  I used my acting ability to express my creativity with the play.  As far as my acting went, I think the play went pretty well.  I had fun too.
