Camp Ramah in Wisconsin Alumni & Friends
Think you're too old for camp? Think again. After you've left your camper years behind, after staff is a memory... now you're one of us - Wisconsin Ramahniks! Our programs create fun opportunities for Ramahniks of all ages to reunite with long-lost friends, to reminisce about their camp days, and to strengthen their bonds with camp.
My name is Robin Rosenbaum Rubenstein and I was a Ramah Wisconsin camper and staff member in the late 1980's and early 1990's (Nivonim 1990). I am originally from the suburbs of Chicago, and I currently live in West Bloomfield, Michigan with my husband, Rabbi Steven Rubenstein and my two children, Ari, 6, and Tali, 3. As the Alumni Coordinator for Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, I am thrilled to be a part of your connection with Ramah.
Perhaps like me, when June comes around, you think about camp and are a little sad when your luggage tags don't come in the mail. Many of us still carry special feelings about camp with us. As a camper from the 1960's and 1970's recently put it, "Once a Ramahnik, always a Ramahnik." I am here to tell you that there are still many ways for you to keep your connection with camp and with other Ramahniks going strong.
This past summer I witnessed how wonderful it can be for Ramahniks to reconnect with camp and with one another. They walk into camp and the memories engulf them. It's powerful to relive those memories together with friends and to see current campers building their own camp memories and relationships. As adults, this experience can be transforming. It's an opportunity to develop a new and different kind of connection to camp and to friends.
Even if it's not a "reunion year" for your aidah, we invite you to make the trek to Conover to reconnect with Ramah. Come for a day or spend a night in the guesthouse - we'd love to give you a taste of the 2008 camp experience.
Regardless of the years you were in camp, and regardless of whether you were a camper, counselor, or adult staff member, I am here for you. If you're looking for a camp friend, have a general question, or you simply want to share some news, please call me or email me. Send in photos and stories for our new online Ramahnik newsletter. There are many ways for you to stay connected with Ramah. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
